My hope was to be able to review Ken Shigamatsu’s new book by today. I had agreed to review it by August 18, but have yet to receive the book. Hopefully that will be coming shortly. This coming week I have about three reviews to get out of the way (one children’s bible and two adult offerings). But it has been A LONG TIME since I posted anything of a personal note so I thought I would take a moment to update y’all.
Vocationally: I’m still working at the hardware store in Blaine. I have been looking at churches and have put in a couple of applications only to have them swallowed by the vortex (where you never even hear a ‘thanks but no thanks’ from a church). My manager at work keeps telling me I have a future with the company as opportunities come up because I do good work. Nice to hear, but I don’t feel like this is the spot for me to flourish in. Vocational ministry is what I am made for. Nice to know if that doesn’t work out, I can always sell pig feed and power tools.
That sounds way more bitter and sarcastic than I feel. Honestly it is hard to chase down church jobs when you are working full time and have a family to take care of, and I am not unhappy. Life has been good. But I still feel ‘between the times.’
My freezer is full: I haven’t just been fishing for a job, but I had an opportunity to go fishing with my uncles and cousins up at Peregrine Lodge in Haida Gwaii, BC last week. My uncle pulled in the big fish for week (a 56 lb. King Salmon!!). I didn’t get nearly anything that big, but I left with 129 lbs. of fish (mostly King salmon and Coho) and I filled my Freezer to the gills. I also went out with my kids this morning and dug some clams and dropped a crab pot. Between the fish and the garden, the Matichuks are eating well this summer.
Beyond that life goes on. And I’m still looking for what God’s next step is for us and our family. I have more to say but have to go, How are you?
Hey James, have you received the Shigematsu book? I still haven’t gotten my copy in the mail; Booksneeze doesn’t usually take this long.
Not that I have time to read it right now, though. I just got a 400-page book in the mail to proofread in the next 3 weeks.
Nope. I didn’t request it through Booksneeze but through Cross Focused Reviews and got word that Zondervan ran out of review copies and it should ship early next week. I imagine it is a similar situation with booksneeze.
I got it this week, did you get yours?
I did. I actually got a second copy today, since I told them last week I hadn’t gotten one. Whoops.
I got two copies of my last Booksneeze offering too. I emailed them about it, and I think it may have happened with a number of books.
Sounds like you had a wonderful time fishing.
Glad you had some down time.
and just remember that God knows where you are and where He is leading you.
love your posts
